They gather in the north of Denmark (from the Benelux countries and Denmark) before leaving for the first stop (normally) in Trønderlag. They spend about 10-14 hours on this. Then on to Vesterålen and then directly across the sea for about 1000 km to Svalbard, arriving sometime in May. Then it’s down again until September with the whole young herd. It’s a hard journey, but what can you do for a nice nesting ground with lots of food for which they have few competitors.Migrating Pink-footed goose (Anser brachyrhynchus)Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) – Bokfink16.03.23“The elves dance” Northern light from just outside Oslo 27.02.23
